This is a photo of a recent project I did with girls from An Oige in Kilcar, based on their recent project about Diversity. The Verbal Arts Centre in Derry, N.I. will be featuring several of my past projects, including the Wool and Sheep Quilt, and MicroCosmos, as part of their Sharing Stories Exhibition around International Womens Day. Worth a look to see all of the projects from the past four years of textile exhibitions there.

INTRODUCTION

Texture, colours, shape and substance. These are some of the properties of textiles. In my lifetime of creating textile art, whether it is a quilt, or wallhanging, or a practical bag, the quest for me has always been finding that indefinable 'zing' element. The combination of colours that pop out at you, the juxtaposition of textures that makes you want to touch the piece, the shapes that lead the eye from one to another and back again. The substance that creates dimensions, light and shadows, the hills and valleys of quilting. For me, this is the essence of what I'm trying to do with my textiles and art work, and its been a journey of a thousand thousand steps over many years of creative work.
